Lee Sungjin’s Gambling and Fraud Trial in Suspension

 

Suspected of gambling and fraud, NRG Lee Sungjin‘s fifth trial was put into suspension due to conflicts and differences in witness’ statements.

On January 17th, afternoon at 5, Lee Sungjin reported to the court in the southern region for his fifth trial. Lee Sungjin was suspected in using gambling debt funds, which are illegal, during his stay at Macau. Reports have covered the star had borrowed one billion dollars for gambling ans had lost one trillion dollars in a matter of two days! According to witness, Lee Sungjin had used the Mr. Mas the middle man to help borrow money, the Mr. M did not know that Lee Sungjin was going to use the money for gambling and did not go gambling with him, thus the Mr. M went to help Lee Sungjin with the loan. This was just the amount in January of 2010! Lee Sungjin had used similar methods to receive money for gambling during June of 2008.

During the fifth trial, the core issues questioned were whether or not the litigant was aware that the loan would be used for gambling purposes. Loan sharks, according to the law, are illegal. If like Lee Sungjin stated, the litigant had known that the money would be used for gambling purposes, Lee Sungjin would not have responsibility to repay the loan. On the other hand, if the litigant agrees to Lee Sungjin’s statement, he would then not receive not even a penny. Present as a witness on the day of the trial, Mr. M said, “I had lended money to Lee Sungjin through a local, Mr.L. I did not know that the money would be used for gambling purposes.”

Regarding the witness’ statement, Lee Sungjin could not cope with the injustice done. After the trial, Lee Sungjin accepted interviews and revealed, “I am willing to accept the consequences I have made, but I feel framed because the truth had be distorted.” Lee Sungjin had borrowed and had squandered the total of 2.33 billion borrowed from January 2010 and June of 2008. He has also not returned any of the 20 million KRW from Mr. L during February of 2010. Lee Sungjin’s sixth trial will be on February 7 in the afternoon   at 2.
