Korean Drama Queen Seon Deok Faces Plagiarism Issues

MBC‘s 2009 hit drama Queen Seon Deok  is now facing accusations of having been plagiarized.

According to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office, the Seoul National University Center for Law and Technology has indeed confirmed that the drama was plagiarized from the script of the musical “Queen of Mugunghwa, Seondeok” written by Kim Jiyoung.
The investigation was ordered by the court when Kim sued MBC and the two screenwriters 200 million won (USD $179,000) in January 2010 for plagiarizing her work. The results were shocking as authorities found evidence of numerous similarities between the musical and drama script from core scenes to rivalries between the main leads and identical romances of certain characters.
While MBC has denied such allegations, the prosecutors’ office has stated that they will use the investigation results if necessary as evidence for the future trial.
