Ivy Chen Joins Super Junior’s Siwon and Donghae for “Extravagant Challenge”

To all drama fans who have been waiting for the Taiwanese drama Extravagant Challenge, I have good news for all of you!

Contrary to rumors in various sites and forums, the upcoming idol drama from GTV is definitely pushing through this time. Last year, Super Junior‘s Siwon and Donghae were both announced to play as the two male leads in the drama, alongside popular Taiwanese actress Ariel Lin who rose to stardom all over Asia due to her previous hit dramas like Tokyo Juliet, Love or Bread, It Started With A Kiss, and its sequel They Kissed Again.
However, the actress has officially dropped the role not to long ago because of various reasons ranging from scheduling conflicts as well as frequent changes in the cast line up and the indefinite production delay, which eventually lead everyone to be disappointed. It can be remembered that the actress held onto this role for almost two years, but she has decided to step out of the drama by taking on another one from the same broadcast network which is tentatively titled I Might Not Fall In Love With You.
It is known by fans that Siwon, Donghae and Ariel have formed a bond while filming for her music video Fireflies two years ago, and have been friends ever since. Up until a few weeks ago, there were hearsays that the two Super Junior members have followed her footsteps and dropped out of the drama as well.
To end all of the unfounded rumors, it was finally announced by GTV today that the drama will begin filming on April, with Ivy Chen stepping in to replace Ariel as the new female lead. It has also been revealed that Feng Jiarui and Doze Niu will both be teaming up to produce the drama together. Unfortunately, the news of Ivy’s casting received mixed reactions from its fans who have been anticipating for the drama for the longest time now, since it will be an adaptation from the popular manga Skip Beat which is well loved by many.
To this, Ivy reassured fans that she will be doing her best and that she will work hard to live up to everyone’s expectations by saying “I am ready!”. On the other hand, it was revealed that both Siwon and Donghae have taken their knowledge of the Chinese to the next level by practicing really hard for this upcoming drama, as it will be their first production outside of Korea, with a language that is fairly different from their native tongue.
This drama will be about a village girl who works hard to become a superstar in order to avenge her former singer boyfriend whose role will be played by Donghae with the help of another superstar, a role set to be played by Siwon. As it is one of the most anticipated dramas in Taiwan this year, considering Super Junior’s popularity in the Chinese region, it is without a question that many fans not just in Taiwan, but also in Korea and the rest of Asia will be looking forward to its broadcast in the small screen.
