MBC‘s new year special, Idol Swimming Championship, has become a hot topic already.
For the new year, MBC will be holding an idol track & field-swimming championship. This is a simple addition of swimming to the regular track and field competition that was held last year. Last year, during the track and field races, After School‘s UEE commented, “If it’s swimming, I’m confident.” After that, this year, swimming was added into the competition, and will have approximately 130 idols participating.
The problem that surfaced with this announcement, is that because it is a swimming competition, they will have no choice but to wear swim suits.
This is a problem, as music programs on public channels criticzed idols for their provocative and racy outfits, and as a result, has become a very sensitive topic. Netizens have been criticizing, “[Bodily] exposure was to be controlled, but now you’re blatantly wanting them to come out without clothes on.”
Staff members behind the special revealed, “As it will be a sports concept, they will be appearing wearing swim suits that fit the standard. There is no element of dressing suggestively. We will show idol singers’ most healthy appearances.”
